Watford FC Community Sports & Education Trust in partnership with the Herts Sports Partnership and Watford Borough Council has devised a programme of activities for the 55+ age group.
This project is sponsored by John Lewis, Watford and funding also gained from the Football Foundation.
The aim of the Extra Time project is to engage the older community in activities to improve their physical, mental and social well being by taking part in regular activities.
The outcomes of this project will be to increase the number of individuals aged 55+ participating in community activity to improve their physical, mental and social well being by taking part on a regular basis.
Watford Learning Centre will be offering three courses throughout the 30-week programme with the participants having the opportunity to choose from the following:
- Basic IT/Internet
- Online shopping/banking
- Mobile/camera
Throughout the programme, there will be activities for two hours a week to encourage older people to come and try a new and different sport or activity in a fun, safe and structured environment.
There will also be the opportunity to try some of the following activities:
- Short Mat Bowls
- Tai Chi
- Pilates
- Short Tennis
- Ballroom Dancing
- Salsa
- Nordic Walking
- Variety of board games
- Nintendo WII fitness/sport
