Hertswood Impact Scheme

This exciting programme will give youngsters between the ages of 16 and 19 the chance to combine academic studies with practical football experience.

Football trials available for Under-16 to Under-18 players at the Hornets’ Hertswood Academy

WATFORD FC and The Hertswood Academy’s Centre of Football Excellence are looking to recruit talented football players, currently in years 11 and 12, to join the hugely successful Impact Centre of Football Excellence for the 2015/16 season.

The trials will take place at the Hertswood Sports Centre, Potters Lane, Borehamwood, Herts, WD6 5LG on the following dates:

Monday February 9 from 6 – 8.30pm
Wednesday April 22 from 6 – 8.30pm
Wednesday May 20 from 6 – 8.30pm
Monday July 6 from 6 – 8.30pm

Watford FC and The Hertswood Academy have successfully been running the Centre of Football Excellence for more than seven years now. The exciting programme gives players between the ages of 16 and 18 the chance to combine academic studies with practical football experience.

During the past few years, six Impact players have achieved international honours by representing their countries at U17, U19, U20, U21 and full senior level for Montserrat, Libya, Albania and Bosnia respectively.

In addition to the current intake of players, there’s also been the success in past years of now Nottingham Forest striker Britt Assombalonga, who started his career on the Watford FC Hertswood Academy Centre of Football Excellence programme.

Further Hertswood Academy players have signed contracts at professional clubs which include Huddersfield Town, Stevenage and Sheffield United. Another player is currently playing in the Philippines Premier League and has signed a two-year professional contract.

This unique package is a fantastic opportunity for young people keen to develop their talent on the football pitch and find a route into a career in football coaching, the leisure industry or university.

All students on the programme will participate in regular competitive football matches. Teams are entered into the Premier League/Football League Development League, the Football Conference Youth League, the British Colleges League and the Premier League/Football League Development League Division 1. Each league hosts a demanding and high standard of football through which students who perform consistently well may progress to Watford FC’s Academy.

Students will receive training in football coaching leading to FA Coaching badges, Leadership Through Football training, emergency aid training, as well as a grounding in child protection issues and practice. They will train daily and play on a competitive basis, an experience similar to football academies nationwide to which students may progress.

In addition to the Watford FC player pathway, additional exit routes are also sourced for the players who have been unsuccessful in gaining contracts. Selected players from the Watford Impact programme have been able to attend trials at other professional and semi-professional clubs.

Completing any one of the range of pathways we offer will give students the skills required to help them progress to a higher standard of education and football, as well as gain experience necessary to work in community football coaching and other areas within the sports industry.

If you are currently in year 11 or 12 and would like to attend the trials then all you have to do is turn up on one or more of the dates as detailed above and complete a simple registration form. If you would like any further information please email wfcimpact@watfordfc.com
