Health and wellbeing programme, Active Watford and Three Rivers, developed and delivered by Watford Football Club Community Sports and Education Trust (Trust) is due to feature in BBC One on Wednesday 20th January at 9pm as part of their ‘The Truth About’ series.

Over the last few years, the Trust has been securing its place locally as a key provider of services supporting people with mental health. It was this that alerted the BBC to feature Active Watford and Three River, in their programme, hosted by Professor Tanya Byron and Alex Scott MBE.

The programme will seek to uncover the latest science on how to improve your mental health and wellbeing – and reveal some surprising new techniques.

It will look at the mechanics of Trust’s programme, and talk about behaviour change and why it is used, with Professor Angel Chater speaking with project lead Alison Goodchild MPH, and meet participant and success of the programme – Brenda.

Active Watford and Three Rivers is funded and delivered in partnership with Premier League, Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA), Herts Valley CCG, Three Rivers District Council, Watford Borough Council, and Watford Community Housing; and is aimed at working with inactive people in Watford and Three Rivers, who are at risk from cardiovascular disease and/or mild to moderate mental health issues, helping them become active.

Health and Wellbeing Specialist at the Trust, Alison Goodchild said:

“When the BBC got in contact to be involved in the show, it was something we just knew we wanted to do, it’s great to get national recognition and to get the chance to showcase the great work of the Trust and Active Watford and Three Rivers.  We know that we have made a positive difference to people’s mental and physical health, which is so important at this time, and it’s fantastic that we can show others how they can achieve it as well.”

You can watch The Truth About Improving Your Mental Health on BBC One on Wednesday 20th January 2021 at 9pm, with the programme then featuring on their BBC iPlayer service.
