Prior to Christmas, the pupils at North Mymms St Mary’s CE Primary School had a surprise in their Premier League Primary Stars PSHE lesson with Watford FC Community Sports and Education Trust (Trust) … a call from Nathaniel Chalobah!
Whilst restrictions at the time prevented a physical appearance, the virtual call on the classrooms project screen still provided a buzz amongst the pupils and staff. The Hornets midfielder answered the children’s questions on his career and offered advice on achieving your goals. The talk worked well within their PSHE lesson as the class were focusing on resilience, a topic Chalobah was quick to put in to live examples from his career.
Premier League Primary Stars uses the appeal of the Premier League and professional football clubs, to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills. The Trust deliver this national programme locally within Hertfordshire and Harrow, covering topics such as PE, Reading, and PSHE.
Of the call, St Mary’s Head Teacher Helen Melidoro said:
“The live zoom question and answer session with Nathaniel Chalobah was such an amazing experience for both the children and staff. Nathanial inspired and motivated them to aim high, give 100% and never give up on their dreams which are all qualities the school wants to instil in our children. Thank you for such a wonderful opportunity!”
Sport and Education Officer at the Trust, Lou Barry said:
“It was brilliant to have Nathaniel join us within our PL Primary Stars PSHE lesson at North Mymm’s St Mary’s, the children found the experience extremely valuable, listening to Nathaniel’s life stories and advice about being resilient. It was great to see all the smiles on the children’s faces!”
