ExtraExtraTimeonoffertocelebrateageing

Ahead of Age Without Limits Day, the Trust is inviting the community to join it for an extended Extra Time session, highlighting activities available for those aged 55 and over.

Age Without Limits Day is the Centre for Ageing Better’s campaign to challenge ageism for the benefit of all. One of this year’s theme is to celebrate ageing, and the Trust’s team is delighted to be showcasing it’s Extra Time session at the Meriden Community Centre, with support from others from the local area.

Every Tuesday, Extra Time provides a space for those aged 55 and over to come together, meet others and engage in physical activity. Latest evaluation of the project shows that:

  • 100% of respondents Strongly Agreed that Extra Time has supported them to create social connections.
  • 100% of respondents reported an increase in their physical activity as a result of Extra Time.

Feedback is extremely positive, and comments include:

“I’ve been coming to Extra Time for six months now and it’s great…But what you may not realise is it’s a lifeline for some people, it gives us the support to keep socialising and most importantly keeps us happy!”

On 10 June, the community is invited to join the team between 10 am and 12 noon to experience the benefits of Extra Time, and find out more about activities for the over 55s in the Watford area.

Shona McHale, Health and Wellbeing Manager (Older Adults) for the Trust, explained: “We have been running Extra Time for a number years and at every session we see the benefit to our participants of spending time with others and getting involved in chair-based exercises, Zumba, meditation, and much more. On 10 June, we are encouraging everyone to join us to get find out more and try their hand at something different.”

No booking is required to attend on 10 June, and anyone interested in finding out more should email shona.mchale@watfordfc.com

Extra Time runs at the Meriden Community Centre (Garsmouth Way, Watford, WD25 9ET) every Tuesday, with sessions also organised at Cedars Youth and Community Centre, on Tuesday and Thursday, in Harrow.

While Age Without Limits Day is on the 11 June, the Trust is using the regular Extra Time session the day before to link in with current participants and existing activities.
