Over eight hundred players engage with Watford Football Club’s Community Sports and Education Trust, through their various Player Development Programmes. Now, they are adding a further programme to their roster … Futsal.

Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced form of the beautiful game that originates in South America. This small-sided version of football is played indoors on a hard court and is widely recognised by top clubs and coaches as a powerful tool for developing technical and tactical skills in young players. The key benefits of playing futsal alongside football are:

  • Sharper Ball Control: More touches in tighter spaces improve technique.
  • Faster Decision-Making: Quick play boosts awareness and reactions.
  • Creativity & Confidence: Encourages flair and risk-taking.
  • Better Passing & Movement: Promotes teamwork and positioning.
  • 1v1 Development: Enhances attacking and defensive skills.

The course of sessions will run from September 2025 to April 2026 at Sandringham School in St Albans. Due to the nature of futsal, there is limited availability with only 12 players per group. Each group will receive 28 high-quality sessions led by the Trust’s FA-qualified coaching staff, plus two detailed development reports during the season. The groups available are:

Tuesdays 6pm – 7pm U7/8

 U9
Tuesdays 7pm – 8pm U10

U11
Tuesdays 8pm – 9pm U12

U13/14

Player Development Officer and lead for the Trust’s Player Development Programmes Nathan Masters said:

“We’re excited to be bringing futsal to our local talented players. This is a fantastic opportunity for young players to develop their skills in a professional and supportive environment, alongside their football.

We’re proud of our Player Development Programmes and our ability to support young players on their pathway to success, the addition of futsal will help us to keep achieving that success.”
