This October, local schools were invited to take part in a special poetry competition in support of the Premier League’s No Room for Racism campaign. This campaign shines a spotlight on the Premier League’s ongoing commitment to tackling racism in football, and demonstrates the steps being taken to improve diversity across all areas of the game.
Students were asked to write a poem on the theme ‘Greatness comes from everywhere’. The winning entries had the exciting opportunity to be featured on Watford FC and Watford FC Community Sports and Education Trust social media channels, home match tickets, or a Stadium Tour!
We had 137 entries from Premier League Primary Stars partner schools for the No Room for Racism Poem competition. The submissions were reviewed by a special guest judging panel, including Tina Fuller (Vibe 107.6), Tom Ince (Watford FC) and Anna Filbey (Watford FC Women)!
Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Officer at the Trust, Madeline Hurley said:
The No Room for Racism campaign is incredibly important in highlighting our ongoing commitment to tackling racism in football. It was fantastic to see so many students take part and express their creativity. A special thanks to Tina Fuller, Tom Ince, and Anna Filbey for making the experience even more memorable for the students!
