Last Saturday (August 31) the Trust and Watford FC sponsored and took part in Herts Pride 2024 at Cassiobury Park in Watford.
Herts Pride, Hertfordshire’s largest LGBTQ+ festival, is an all-inclusive event where anyone is welcome. The event featured a wide range of exciting stalls, fabulous catering, a main stage with a diverse mix of entertaining acts, and their legendary dog show. Players from the Academy under 21’s team joined staff and volunteers from across the Club and Trust in welcoming attendees to the event’s sports zone, along with the Proud Hornets supporters’ group.
“We are delighted that some of our academy players had the opportunity to attend Herts Pride” said Nathan Jopp, Player Care and Safeguarding Officer for the Academy. “Being part of such an important celebration of diversity and inclusion not only aligns with our club’s values, but also offers our young athletes a chance to grow off the pitch. Engaging in community events like this helps them broaden their perspectives, build empathy, and strengthen their sense of unity and teamwork.”
Ahead of the event the Club also hosted ‘Proud Portraits On Tour’, an exhibition featuring images of 19 Watford people, representing our town’s diversity and collective self-confidence created by Proud Watford. The portraits were displayed in the Rookery Stand and concourse, as well as in the managers dug outs, and several members of staff were pictured as part of the display.
A date has already been confirmed for Herts Pride 2025, which will take place on Saturday 30th August. The Club and Trust will be continuing their support of the event, as well as working with the Proud Hornets and Proud Watford across the course of the year.
