In the welcoming space of our popular and much-loved Sensory Room, our Community, Sports & Education Trust hosted a special morning as part of the Golden Memories programme to raise awareness of dementia in light of World Alzheimer’s Month.
This uplifting session combined a wonderful morning of tea and cake with a unique blend of cognitive stimulation activities, therapeutic care, and shared moments of joy. Guests and their carers and/or loved ones came together for a fun filled experience designed to enhance the mental and physical well-being of those living with dementia.
While the cognitive games were in progress, two skilled therapists provided gentle and relaxing hand massages, offering participants a much-needed moment of relaxation and respite. This thoughtful addition allowed for a peaceful break, creating an atmosphere of care and connection.
Golden Memories proudly offers weekly sessions filled with similarly engaging activities, guidance, and monthly excursions to support those at any stage of their dementia journey. Whether at the beginning or further along, we are here to support you!.
For more information on how to join the Golden Memories programme please contact Shona McHale via email at Shona.mchale@watfordfc.com or call 07510-593192.
The club has also worked hard to make our Vicarage Road stadium a more dementia-friendly environment. We have many Season Ticket holders who are living with dementia, and have made arrangements with family members and friends to ensure they can continue to enjoy their football as safely as they can, such as providing personal assistant tickets where needed or using the accessible entrances and seating areas across the stadium.
We encourage anyone who needs some additional support to contact us, and we’ll be more than happy to discuss their requirements. If you or a loved one are living with dementia and need additional support from the club to attend matches, please contact disabled.supporters@watfordfc.com with your details, and one of our team will call to discuss how we can help.
