Over £10,000 raised as 100+ take on first-ever Taylor Trek

To celebrate Watford FC CSE Trust’s 30th anniversary, 114 people took on three routes across Watford and the surrounding areas, visiting key sites from Graham Taylor’s Hornets’ history, starting and ending at Vicarage Road Stadium. The smiles were infectious as the trekkers crossed the finish line, with the Taylor family on hand to award medals.

The event, kindly sponsored by local accountancy firm Mercer & Hole, saw the whole Watford FC community represented, including Watford FC fans, legends, beneficiaries, families, the academy’s under-eighteens squad, young people from The Trust’s social inclusion programme Premier League Kicks, volunteers, and a host of members from various supporters’ groups.

The route passed the key sites from Graham Taylor’s Hornets’ history, including Watford Town Centre and Cassiobury Park, and visiting Abbots Langley and Kings Langley, as well as stopping off at Watford Museum and Meriden Community Centre. Thanks must go to Wenzel’s bakery, who made sure the trekkers on the medium and challenge routes were rewarded with lunch and doughnuts.

Jon Moonie and Mike Parkin recorded a special ‘The Taylor Trek’ From The Rookery End podcast during the challenge route walk. At the finish line, Mike said: “We have completed The Taylor Trek 2022, made it to Vicarage Road, and received a medal from Rita Taylor. [What] a fantastic finale! A lovely way to round off a nicely thought-out route. The whole ethos of Watford and the community club was never far from [our minds] and it was a really rewarding day. I fully recommend as many people as possible to do it, it’s great fun and for a worthy cause.”

The full podcast can be listened to here.

Watford FC CSE Trust couldn’t have done this event without the support of so many, but a special thanks must go to the group of fantastic volunteers and the Taylor family, particularly Rita and Karen, whose support and advice throughout was invaluable.

Thank you for the donations. All money raised from The Taylor Trek 2022 will go towards the Trust and the continued efforts to make a positive difference for all through sport, physical activity, and learning.
