PremierLeaguePrimaryStarsStoryStarsBringsReadingtoLifeatWatfordLibrary

As part of our continued celebrations of the Year of Reading, the Trust recently delivered exciting Premier League Primary Stars Story Stars sessions for Year one to three pupils from Lanchester School at Watford Library. The Story Stars programme, supported by the National Literacy Trust, aims to inspire a love of reading, improve literacy engagement and encourage children to read for fun.

Throughout the interactive session, pupils immersed themselves in stories by becoming part of the adventure. They danced like flamingos, used their superpowers to spread kindness, acted out their future career aspirations, and even rolled dice to create their own imaginative monsters. Along the way, children were challenged to develop their comprehension skills through interactive questions and discussions.

Following the storytelling, pupils completed a range of linked literacy activities, showcasing their creativity through independent writing and fantastic illustrations inspired by the stories.

Feedback from pupils, parents, and school staff was overwhelmingly positive, with teachers praising the engaging, hands-on nature of the workshop and the way activities kept children actively involved throughout the morning. Pupils particularly enjoyed the opportunity to move around, visit the library and showcase their creativity, with many expressing excitement about seeing their work displayed on the library wall.

“Supportive and adaptable for each individual.” – Parent

“I felt nervous before I came here but I felt inspired once I started the workshop – drawing my monster helped me feel confident.” – Year 3 pupil

To round off a brilliant morning, everyone enjoyed a special visit from Harry the Hornet, who celebrated the children’s hard work, admired their creations and joined them for a celebratory dance.

A huge thank you to Watford Library for hosting the event, and congratulations to all the staff and pupils from Lanchester School for their enthusiasm and creativity.

We encourage all families to visit their local library over the summer holidays to continue their reading journey. After the summer break, pupils will also be able to visit Watford Library to see examples of their fantastic work on display.
