Watford Football Club’s Community Sports and Education Trust has run their flagship fundraising event, The Taylor Trek, for two successful years; now, in 2024, they are teaming up with fellow charity Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care. Both charities will work together to make year three bigger and better than ever, with funds raised split evenly between them. There is more good news for The Taylor Trek 2024 as local accountancy firm Mercer & Hole have completed the hat-trick for years of support.
The Taylor Trek, kindly sponsored by Mercer & Hole, is a charity walk around Watford and surrounding areas, in honour of the Trust’s former patron – Graham Taylor OBE, with the route visiting key sites of Hornets’ history. The event recognises the pivotal role Taylor played in the success of Watford Football Club on and off the pitch and has been created in collaboration with current Trust patrons – The Taylor family.
As well as his role within Watford Football Club, Graham also supported the town and other charities, including Peace Hospice where Taylor had been making regular visits since 1998 and became a patron in 2011. It is that connection that reinforces the decision for these two charities to partner up on such a positive event.
The Taylor Trek has three routes of varying distances, ranging from three to 18 miles, starting at Vicarage Road Stadium and finishing with a pitch-side walk. Bringing together Watford FC fans, legends, Trust beneficiaries, and their families, this walk will raise vital funds for both the Trust and Rennie Grove Peace. Tickets are priced at £25 for adults and £10 for children and can be booked online. For more information, you can visit https://www.watfordfccsetrust.com/the-taylor-trek/
Leah Crocket, Events & Marketing Officer at the Trust said:
We’ve seen the power of collaboration, most recently with our Stadium Sleepout event, so we were keen to expand our Taylor Trek family. Rennie Grove Peace was the obvious choice, given the joint link with Graham Taylor, and the fantastic community support they give to many of the same communities as us. We look forward to working together to make this the best year yet.
Whilst, Tracey Hancock Director of Fundraising at Rennie Grove Peace, added:
We are deeply grateful to Watford FC Community Sports & Education Trust for their support and partnership through The Taylor Trek. Graham Taylor was a cherished patron of Peace Hospice Care for many years, and we are honoured to keep alive the meaningful connection he fostered between the football club and our hospice care. This event not only pays tribute to his legacy but the funds raised will be vital for sustaining our services and ensuring we can continue providing compassionate care to our local community.
Thank you to everyone involved for their unwavering support and commitment to making this event a success.
The Taylor Trek, sponsored by Mercer & Hole, is planned for Sunday 13th October 2024 and bookings are now open. The charities are also keen to recruit sponsors for this year’s event, if you or a business you know would be interested, please contact Adam.Sawyer@watfordfc.com
