Watford FC Academy’s under eighteens squad have committed to support their community by taking part in a charity walk – The Taylor Trek, sponsored by Mercer & Hole. The fundraising event, put together by the Club’s official charity Watford FC Community Sports and Education Trust, alongside their patrons, the Taylor family, has been put together to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the Trust in honour of the man who started it all – Graham Taylor OBE.
This brand-new unique event will bring together Watford FC fans, legends, supporters, Trust beneficiaries, and families on Sunday the twenty-fifth of September for a route around Watford and surrounding areas. There are three routes available with varying lengths, all have been devised with the support of Watford Museum and will pass the key sites of Graham Taylor’s Hornets history.
Former Hornet and current Academy Director, Richard Johnson, said of the academy’s involvement:
“Watford Football Club has a long tradition of being a family club and it is something we want to make sure the next generation of players understand, that’s why we were keen for our under 18s to take part in The Taylor Trek and help raise funds for our community through the work of Trust.”
Richard, alongside the fellow former player and current Academy Head of Technical Development Jimmy Gilligan, will also be joining the players on The Taylor Trek.
You can donate to their fundraising page at www.givepenny.com/watford_fc_academy_u18_the_taylor_trek – all money raised from The Taylor Trek will go toward the Trust and their continued efforts to make a positive difference for all through sport, physical activity, and learning.
Alongside the youth squad, several Watford FC supporters and supporter groups have also signed up. Young people from the Trust’s social inclusion project Premier League Kicks, are also registered to take part, in what promises to be a true community event.
